Yankees vs. Red Sox Prediction

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox, 9/9/19 Prediction & Odds

The defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox are having a much rougher 2019 and the hammer dropped last night with the firing of team president Dave Dombrowski. Can Boston refocus tonight and get a win in the series finale at home against the rival New York Yankees?

Torres powers Yankees to win

New York posted a 10-5 victory at Boston on Sunday Night Baseball last night to improve to 94-50 overall and 41-28 on the road. Gleyber Torres led the Yankees offense as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Aaron Judge went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Mike Tauchman was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBIs. Edwin Encarnacion ended the contest 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Chad Green picked up the win in relief as he struck out five over three perfect innings pitched. James Paxton will start tonight as he enters with a 12-6 record, 4.16 ERA and 1.33 WHIP plus 168 strikeouts across 132 innings.

Porcello struggles again

Boston fell by a count of 10-5 at home Sunday night against New York which helped lead to a shakeup of the front office post-game. Jackie Bradley Jr. helped pace the Red Sox offense as he went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Sandy Leon was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Mookie Betts ended the game 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Rick Porcello took the loss as he gave up six earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout and no walks over four innings. Eduardo Rodriguez gets the start tonight for Boston as he comes in with a 17-5 record, 3.81 ERA and 1.36 WHIP plus 168 strikeouts over 172 1/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Yankees are 6-1 in their last seven road games. New York is 7-0 in the last seven Paxton starts.

Boston

The Red Sox are 19-7 in their last 26 Monday games. Boston is 42-11 in the last 52 Rodriguez starts.

Prediction:

The Red Sox rarely lose Rodriguez starts, but I'm still a bit surprised the Yankees aren't favored a little more on the moneyline. Paxton has been unreal lately and he'll face a Boston team that has to be a little shellshocked after last night's news on the ousting of Dombrowski. Boston has had issues all season and it hasn't even been better at home. I'm taking the Yankees in this spot.
