Thames homer lifts Brewers

Eric Thames hit a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday afternoon in a 2-1 home victory over Pittsburgh. It was the only hit for Thames in two at-bats off the bench. Christian Yelich ended the contest 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. Mike Moustakas went 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Jeremy Jeffress struck out one in a perfect inning of relief to notch the save. Matt Albers gave up one hit with no strikeouts or walks in a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save. Adrian Houser draws the start for the Brewers as he enters with a 2-2 record, 2.94 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 40 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings.

Reds hold off Cubs

Cincinnati posted an 8-6 home win over Chicago Sunday afternoon to improve to 38-43 overall and 21-18 at home. Anthony DeSclafani threw six shutout innings to notch the win as he allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Raisel Iglesias picked up the save as he gave up three earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks over two innings. Eugenio Suarez helped lead the Reds offense as he went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Yasiel Puig finished 1-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Nick Senzel was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run and two RBIs. Tyler Mahle gets the start today as he enters with a 2-8 record, 4.35 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 84 strikeouts over 82 2/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Milwaukee

The Brewers are 19-7 in their last 26 Monday games. Milwaukee is 1-5 in its last six road games.

Cincinnati

The Reds are 6-1 in their last seven home games. Cincinnati is 4-1 in its last five Monday games.

Prediction:

Mahle has had a lot of bad luck and poor run support this season, which typically evens out over time. With the Brewers struggling on the road and the Reds playing very well at Great American Ballpark lately, I'm definitely leaning toward the hosts here. The Reds need to string some wins together to get back in the NL Central race and beating first-place Milwaukee would be a good step.
