AVONDALE, AZ (TheSpread) – Matt Kenseth was fastest in qualifying on Saturday and he will start up front in the Kobalt Tools 500 on Sunday, the second-to-last NASCAR Sprint Cup race of the year.

According to oddsmakers, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson are now the favorites to win Sunday’s race with 5/1 odds each. Other short odds to win are Kenseth (6/1) and Carl Edwards (7/1).

Stewart is 3 points behind Edwards for the points lead. He has four wins on the year, all of which have come in the Chase for the Championship. His average finish this season is 12.6 and his driver rating is 93.9. At Phoenix, Stewart has one win and seven top 5’s in 19 races. His average finish is 11.7 and his driver rating is 98.1, which ranks seventh in the series. Stewart qualified eighth for Sunday’s race.

Johnson is sixth in the point standings, 55 points out of first. Johnson has two wins and 14 top 5’s on the year with an average finish of 11.3 and a driver rating of 100.4. At Phoenix, Johnson has four wins and 11 top 5’s. His average finish there is 4.8 while his driver rating is 121.8, which is best in the series. Johnson qualified 16th.

Kenseth is fourth in the point standings, 38 points out of first. He has three wins and 11 top 5’s on the year. Kenseth’s average finish on the year is 11.8 while his driver rating is 98.8. At Phoenix, Kenseth has one win and five top 5’s. His average finish at the track is 17.2 while his driver rating is just 84.6.

Edwards leads the standings and has one win with 17 top 5’s on the year. His average finish is 9.7 while his driver rating is 99.1. At Phoenix, Edwards has one win and five top 5’s in 14 races. His average finish is 13.0 and his driver rating is 99.6, which ranks fourth in the series. Edwards will start ninth on Sunday.
