This race is open to all race winners over the last year along with previous Sprint Cup champions of the last 10 years. Two additional spots are awarded to the top two finishers in the Sprint Showdown, another exhibition race that is held prior to the All-Star Race. In the All-Star race, the drivers compete in four segments. Drivers contend in a 50-lap segment that has a mandatory 4-tire green flag pit stop. Then there are two 20-lap segments until the end, where it is a 10-lap shootout to determine the winner.

According to oddsmakers at online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, and Carl Edwards are all favored to win this event as each has a money line of +650.

These three are the top three drivers in the current standings. Edwards has the lead while Johnson is 24 points back and Busch is 37 points back. All have won at least one race this season, while Busch has two victories.

Johnson is the only one of the three to win this event, as he won in 2003 and 2006. His average running position at the race is 5.5 while his driver rating in this race is 112.8, best of any driver.

Kyle Busch has an average running position of 7.7 in the All-Star while his driver rating is 104.6, which is the second-best of any driver in the series.

Edwards has not done well in the All-Star as he is not statistically amongst the best drivers in this race. Edwards hasn’t finished in the top 10 in is last three races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
