Kurt Busch ends winless skid
RIDGEWAY, VA (TheSpread) – It had been nearly three years since Kurt Busch picked up a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win, but that all ended on Sunday when he won the STP 500.
Busch held off Jimmie Johnson over the final handful of laps following a caution flag to get the victory. Busch had went 83 races without getting a win, but this one likely gives him a spot in the Chase for the Championship at the end of the year.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Busch had 50/1 odds to win this race, which means a wager of $100 on Busch to win will pay out an additional $5,000.
Busch moves up to 20th in the point standings, but the win will go a long way to helping him contend for the title. Johnson moved up to fifth with his finish and Dale Earnhardt Jr. regained the points lead by taking third today. He now leads Matt Kenseth by nine for the lead. Kenseth finished sixth on Sunday.
