Benintendi has four-hit night
Andrew Benintendi helped key the Red Sox offense in Game 1 of the World Series as he finished 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI to help the hosts to an 8-4 victory over the Dodgers. Boston led 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning before Eduardo Nunez put it away with a 3-run home run. Mookie Betts went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs. J.D. Martinez was 2-fo-3 with a double, a walk, a run and two RBIs. Sandy Leon finished the contest 2-for-4. Matt Barnes earned the win as he gave up one hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief.
Kershaw struggles in defeat
Clayton Kershaw was hit hard in Game 1 as he surrendered five earned runs on seven hits over four innings of work, striking out five and walking three. Justin Turner paced the offense by going 3-for-5 with a run. David Freese went 2-for-3, while Manny Machado finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Matt Kemp hit a solo home run in four at-bats.
Hyun-Jin Ryu (7-3, 1.97 ERA) will start today for the Dodgers, while the Red Sox counter with David Price (16-7, 3.58).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The over is 6-2-1 in the last nine Dodgers road games. Los Angeles is 3-8 in the last 11 meetings.
Boston
The Red Sox are 13-2 in their last 15 World Series games. The over is 9-1-2 in the last 12 Boston home games.
Prediction:
Price was awesome in his last start and even as a veteran, it had to have been a big confidence boost considering his playoff struggles. Conversely, Ryu has struggled in his last couple postseason starts and now faces the vaunted Red Sox offense that just made Kershaw look silly. While Craig Kimbrel threw last night, he'll be available again today and if Boston can hand him the ball with a lead, it's probably all over.
