Four-run first powers Yankees

New York scored four runs in the first inning Friday night at home in Game 5 of the ALCS as it topped Houston 4-1 to pull within 3-2 in the best-of-7 series. D.J. LeMahieu led off the game with a solo home run as he was 1-for-4 with the long ball to help lead the offense. Aaron Hicks went 1-for-3 with a first inning three-run homer. Gleyber Torres finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. James Paxton picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on four hits with nine strikeouts and four walks over six innings. Aroldis Chapman notched the save as he struck out one in a perfect inning. The Yankees are expected to go with a bullpen game today with the start possibly going to Chad Green

Verlander stumbles in first

Houston lost by a score of 4-1 Friday night at New York in Game 5 of the ALCS. Justin Verlander took the loss as he gave up four earned runs in the first inning before settling in as he ended up giving up five hits total with nine strikeouts and no walks over seven innings to take the loss. George Springer helped pace the Astros offense as he went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Carlos Correa was 1-for-2 plus two walks. Jake Marisnick ended the contest 1-for-2. The Astros have not announced their starting pitcher as of this writing and are expected to employ a bullpen game.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Yankees are 4-11 in their last 15 playoff road games. New York is 42-17 in its last 59 Saturday games.

Houston

The Astros are 4-1 in their last five playoff home games. Houston is 54-22 in its last 76 games overall.

Prediction:

If both teams are indeed going with a bullpen game, I see this as a fairly even playing field and can even find several edges for the Yankees. They are playing with confidence again and have to be happy they are not facing Gerrit Cole on short rest and will instead see lesser pitchers today. If New York wins today, it will have to deal with Cole on full rest and that will be a very difficult task. But that can be dealt with at that point. I think the window is wide open for the Yankees to force a Game 7 and I'm taking the dogs here.
