Woodruff homers, Brewers win
Milwaukee relief pitcher Brandon Woodruff hit a home run off Clayton Kershaw Friday night to help pave the way to a 6-5 victory over Los Angeles. The Brewers held a 6-1 advantage before the Dodgers scored three times in the eight and once in the ninth, but the potential tying run was stranded at third. Lorenzo Cain was 3-for-5 with a double and a run from the leadoff spot in the win. Jesus Aguilar finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Manny Pina was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run. Domingo Santana contributed a pinch-hit two-run single and scored a run. Woodruff struck out four in two spotless innings to earn the win.
Machado paces LA offense
Los Angeles shortstop Manny Machado has been hot the last couple games, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in last night's loss. Chris Taylor finished 3-for-5 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Matt Kemp was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Joc Pederson was 0-for-1 with two walks and a run. Kershaw suffered the loss as he allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits over three innings, striking out two and walking two.
Hyun-Jin Ryu (7-3, 1.97 ERA) will start today for the Dodgers, while the Brewers will go with Wade Miley (5-2, 2.57).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 28-12 in their last 40 games overall. Los Angeles is 13-7 in its 20 playoff games.
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 24-6 in their last 30 games overall. Milwaukee is 7-2 in its last nine playoff home games.
Prediction:
Milwaukee is on a serious roll, but there are some concerns going into this game. The top bullpen arms threw in Game 1 and Josh Hader is almost certainly unavailable after throwing 46 pitches last game. The Dodgers' bullpen is in much better shape and Ryu has been having a fantastic stretch on the mound. Los Angeles knows how important this game is and won't take it for granted. Bet on LA to even the series here.
