Bullpen day baffles Astros
Tampa Bay used six different pitchers Tuesday night in a 4-1 home victory over Houston to even the ALDS at two games apiece. Ryan Yarbrough picked up the win in relief as he gave up two hits with no strikeouts or walks in two scoreless innings of relief. Blake Snell retired both batters he faced with one strikeout to notch the save. Tommy Pham went 3-for-5 with a solo home run to help pace the offense. Avisail Garcia was 4-for-5 with a run scored. Willy Adames finished 1-for-3 with a solo homer plus a walk. Tyler Glasnow gets the start tonight after giving up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks over 4 1/3 innings in Game 1.
Verlander hit hard in defeat
Houston fell by a score of 4-1 at Tampa Bay Tuesday night in Game 4 of the ALDS as the hosts forced tonight's decisive Game 5. Justin Verlander suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks over 3 2/3 innings.Robinson Chirinos led the Astros offensively as he ended the game 1-for-3 with a solo home run that broke up the shutout in the eighth inning. George Springer was 2-for-4, while Yordan Alvarez ended the night 1-for-4 with a double. Gerrit Cole starts tonight for Houston after he was exceptional in Game 2 as he gave up four hits with 15 strikeouts and one walk over 7 2/3 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 4-1 in their last five games following an off day. Tampa Bay is 6-1 in the last seven Glasnow road starts.
Houston
The Astros are 39-12 in their last 51 home games. Houston is 6-0 in the last six Cole starts versus the AL East.
Prediction:
Houston was cruising through two games, but when the series shifted the Rays woke up all at once as it dominated Zack Greinke and the previously untouchable Verlander in back-to-back home games. The question remaining is whether it has an answer for Cole tonight. I don't know how much Tampa Bay will get to Cole, but I think the combination of Glasnow and a rock solid bullpen keeps the Rays right in it until the end. I don't know if this is quite a tossup, but at this price I love taking a chance on Tampa Bay. The Rays have been very good on the road this season and Glasnow has shown dominating stuff when healthy this season. If Tampa Bay can scratch a couple off of Cole early, perhaps it can ride its pitching once again to victory.
