Holt first player to record cycle in MLB postseason history

Brock Holt was locked in Monday night in the Red Sox's 16-1 shellacking at New York as he went 4-for-6 and hit for the cycle in the process for a first in postseason history. Holt had a home run, triple, double plus the single while scoring three runs and driving in five. Mookie Betts finished 2-for-5 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Andrew Benintendi was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, two runs and three RBIs. J.D. Martinez ended the contest 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs. Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-6 and scored a run. Rafael Devers finished 2-for-6 with two runs and an RBI. Ian Kinsler was 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs off the bench. Christian Vazquez went 2-for-6 with a run and an RBI. Jackie Bradley Jr. was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs. Nathan Eovaldi earned the win as he allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks over seven innings.

Severino shelled in loss

There were reports that Yankees starter Luis Severino started his warm-ups only eight minutes before the game started Monday night because he didn't know what time first pitch was. That translated to a rough outing on the mound as he gave up six earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks over three innings to take the loss. Luke Voit was 1-for-3 and scored the lone run. Giancarlo Stanton finished 2-for-4. Didi Gregorius went 0-for-2 with the lone RBI.

Rick Porcello (17-7, 4.28 ERA) will start tonight for the Red Sox, while the Yankees will counter with CC Sabathia (9-7, 3.65).

MLB Betting Trends

Boston

The over is 7-1-1 in the last nine Red Sox games overall. Boston is 40-15 in its last 55 Tuesday games.

New York

The Yankees are 7-1 in their last eight home playoff games. New York is 6-2 in Sabathia's last eight starts versus Boston.

Prediction:

This series still probably has five games written all over it. There might be some recency bias with how bettors wager on this game after watching Boston win in a rout last night. Don't let that fool you. Sabathia continues to pitch well versus Boston and against most teams this year as a crafty, veteran lefty. Look for New York's offense to get to Porcello more than it did Eovaldi. Take the favored Yankees tonight.
