Chapman powers Athletics
Oakland secured a 3-1 victory win at Seattle Thursday night to improve to 96-63 overall and 44-34 on the road. Matt Chapman helped pace the A's offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs. Matt Olson ended the game 2-for-5 with an RBI. Ramon Laureano finished 2-for-4. Sean Manaea picked up the win as he gave up one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Liam Hendriks struck out two in a perfect inning of work to notch the save. Mike Fiers gets the start tonight for Oakland as he enters with a 15-4 record, 3.91 ERA and 1.19 WHIP plus 122 strikeouts over 179 2/3 innings pitched.
Felix makes final start
Felix Hernandez made what was most likely his final start with the Seattle Mariners Thursday night as he took the loss in a 3-1 home defeat versus Oakland. Hernandez gave up three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk over 5 1/3 innings. Kyle Seager ended the contest 2-for-3 with a run scored to help pace the Seattle offense. Austin Nola was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Domingo Santana finished the game 1-for-3. Justus Sheffield will start tonight for the Mariners as he comes in with an 0-1 record, 5.81 ERA and 1.68 WHIP plus 35 strikeouts over 31 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A's are 5-1 in their last six Friday games. Oakland is 8-2 in the last 10 Fiers road starts.
Seattle
The Mariners are 0-4 in their last four Friday games. Seattle is 2-5 in its last seven home games.
Prediction:
Aside from a hiccup or two, Fiers has been very consistent this season. He should shut down a Mariners lineup that was nearly no-hit a couple days ago and has been mostly brutal all season. The runline bet is a possibility here, but I'll stick with the runline bet. Sheffield isn't good enough at this point to slow down the A's fully and deal with a lack of runn support.
