Chapman homer lifts A's to win

Matt Chapman hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday night to send Oakland to a 3-2 victory at Los Angeles. Chapman finished the contest 2-for-5 with the homer and two RBIs. Ramon Laureano was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk to also contribute. Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Joakim Soria pitched a perfect inning of relief with no strikeouts to pick up the win. Liam Hendriks recorded the save as he threw a spotless frame with two strikeouts. Sean Manaea will start tonight for the Athletics as he enters with a 3-0 record, 1.14 ERA and 0.80 WHIP plus 25 strikeouts over 23 2/3 innings pitched.

Mariners nearly no-hit

Seattle was no-hit Wednesday night by the Houston Astros and Zack Greinke until it was broken up on a single with one out in the ninth inning by pinch-hitter Austin Nola. The Mariners went on to lose the contest 3-0. Tim Lopes had the only other hit for Seattle as he went 1-for-3, while Dee Gordon was 0-for-1 plus a walk. Yusei Kikuchi took the loss as he gave up two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Felix Hernandez draws the start tonight as he enters with a 1-7 record, 6.51 ERA and 1.52 WHIP plus 54 strikeouts across 66 1/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Oakland

The A's are 6-0 in their last six Thursday games. Oakland is 7-1 in its last eight road games.

Los Angeles

The Mariners are 1-4 in their last five games overall. Seattle is 8-21 in its last 29 starts.

Prediction:

Remember King Felix Day? It wasn't THAT long ago that he was a dominant pitcher and it's sad this might be the end of his Mariners career tonight. While his numbers are poor this season and it's been mostly bad, I'm going to cross my fingers that his last start ever can feature some vintange Felix. Probably not, but if he can go five or six innings the M's could have a good shot against an A's team that is maybe pressing a bit to clinch its bid as the offense hasn't been great lately. You have to pick some underdogs, right? Here's one for you.
