Phillies hammered at Indians

Philadelphia suffered a 10-1 loss Sunday night at Cleveland in interleague play to drop to 79-75 overall and 36-40 on the road. Vince Velasquez took the loss as he allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks over 4 2/3 innings pitched. Scott Kingery led the Phillies offensively as he finished 2-for-2 with two doubles, a walk and a run scored. J.T. Realmuto went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Bryce Harper ended the game 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Zach Eflin will start tonight for Philadelphia as he enters with a 9-12 record, 4.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP plus 121 strikeouts over 150 2/3 innings pitched.

Nats bullpen struggles in series finale

Washington lost by a count of 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Miami to fall to 85-69 overall and 43-38 on the road. Anthony Rendon helped pace the Nationals offense as he was 1-for-5 with an RBI, while Brian Dozier went 0-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Howie Kendrick ended the contest 2-for-4. Wander Suero took the loss in relief as he gave up two earned runs on one hits with one strikeout and one walk over one-third of an inning. MLB Betting Trends

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 1-5 in the last six Eflin Monday starts. Philadelphia is 2-5 in its last seven games versus a left-handed starter.

Washington

The Nationals are 9-1 in the last 10 Corbin home starts. Washington is 5-2 in its last seven Monday games.

Prediction:

Washington stumbled yesterday and definitely has bullpen issues, but the Phillies have a lot of issues in their own right and far less to play for at this point. With the Nats back home and sending the reliable Corblin to the mound, I like their chances to bounce back here. Washington is familiar with what Eflin has to offer and is the far less overwhelming pitcher to face in the matchup. Go with the home team here.
