Harper power Phillies to win

Philadelphia earned a 9-4 victory Saturday night at Cleveland to improve to 79-74 overall and 36-39 on the road. Bryce Harper led the Phillies offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and four RBIs. Jay Bruce was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Brad Miller went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs. Jason Vargas picked up the win as he allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over 6 2/3 innings. Vince Velasquez gets the start tonight for Philadelphia as he enters with a 7-7 record, 4.89 ERA and 1.39 WHIP plus 121 strikeouts over 108 2/3 innings of work.

Mercado homers in defeat

Cleveland fell 9-4 at home Saturday night in interleague play against Philadelphia to drop to 91-64 overall and 48-32 at home.Oscar Mercado led the Indians offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Carlos Santana was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Franmil Reyes ended the night 1-for-4 with an RBI. Oliver Perez took the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on one hit without recording an out. Adam Plutko draws the start tonight for Cleveland as he comes in with a 7-4 record, 4.34 ERA and 1.22 WHIP plus 72 strikeouts over 103 2/3 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

The Phillies are 4-0 in the last four Velasquez starts. Philadelphia is 2-5 in its last seven Sunday games.

The Indians are 5-1 in their last six home games. Cleveland is 1-4 in its last five interleague games.

Cleveland has been streaky all season and although it does have the starting pitching advantage somewhat and is on its home field, the bullpen has been an issue all season. If Philadelphia can keep this game close, I like its chances to steal another one as the Indians are going to start pressing more each game knowing they are the trailing team in the AL Wild Card race. I'm taking a shot on the Phillies in this spot.
