Phillies vs. Indians Prediction

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Cleveland Indians, 9/21/19 Prediction & Odds

The Cleveland Indians have won five in a row and are in a tight battle for an AL Wild Card bid. Is a bet on Cleveland the smart way to go as its home interleague series against the Philadelphia Phillies continues tonight?

Franco drive in a pair

Philadelphia lost by a score of 5-2 Friday night at Cleveland to drop to 78-74 overall and 35-39 on the road. Maikel Franco was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to pace the Phillies offense. Brad Miller went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Adam Haseley was also 1-for-4 with a run. Drew Smyly took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on five hits with no strikeouts and three walks over two innings. Jason Vargas draws the start tonight for Philadelphia as he enters with a 6-8 record, 4.48 ERA and 1.34 WHIP plus 113 strikeouts over 138 2/3 innings pitched.

Bieber pitches into eighth

Cleveland registered a 5-2 victory at home versus Philadelphia Friday night as it stayed neck-and-neck for the second AL Wild Card spot. Shane Bieber recorded the win as he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks over 7 1/3 innings. Carlos Carrasco picked up the save as he allowed no runs on no hits with no strikeouts and one walk over 1 1/3 innings. Oscar Mercado led the Indians offense as he was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Francisco Lindor went 1-for-2 with two walks, a run and an RBI. Carlos Santana finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Zach Plesac gets the start tonight for Cleveland as he comes in with an 8-6 record, 3.64 ERA and 1.20 WHIP plus 79 strikeouts over 106 1/3 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 6-1 in their last seven interleague road games. Philadelphia is 3-10 in its last 13 Saturday games.

Cleveland

The Indians are 5-0 in their last five home games. Cleveland is 0-4 in its last four Saturday games.

Prediction:

Cleveland has been on a tear lately, taking advantage of home games against MLB-worst Detroit and a fairly checked-out Philly squad. I like the Indians again tonight as it needs every win it can get as it technically trails Tampa Bay for the second AL Wild Card spot despite being even in the standings. Plesac looked like he was dealing with some fatigue for a while, but then shut down the naysayers with a complete-game shutout his last outing at the Angels. With Cleveland also skipping Plesac's turn in the rotation, he should be plenty fresh here. I'm all in with the hosts.
