Mets prevail in series opener

New York secured a 5-4 victory Thursday night in the series opener at Washington. Amed Rosario was 3-for-6 and scored a run from the leadoff spot to help pace the offense. Jeff McNeil went 2-for-5 with a double and a run. Michael Conforto was 1-for-3 with a home run, three walks and two RBIs. Jay Bruce finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two walks and two RBIs. Brandon Nimmo was 1-for-5 with a double and a walk. Jacob Rhame picked up the win in relief as he allowed two hits with two strikeouts and two walks in two scoreless innings.

Nationals ace Max Scherzer earned a no-decision yesterday as he allowed three earned runs on five hits with 13 strikeouts and two walks over seven innings. Jefry Rodriguez took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk in one inning of work. Trea Turner helped lead the offense as he was 1-for-4 with two walks and two runs. Bryce Harper went 1-for-5 with a walk. Anthony Rendon finished 1-for-5 with a home run, a walk and three RBIs. Ryan Zimmerman was 3-for-5 with a double.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The under is 6-2-1 in the last nine Mets games overall. New York is 14-3 in deGrom's last 17 Friday starts.

Washington

The over is 15-5-1 in the last 21 Nationals home games. Washington is 3-8 in its last eight times facing deGrom.

Prediction:

A win-loss record means nothing for a pitcher's worth as shown by deGrom this year. Even so, it would be a shame if he actually finished this season with a record below .500. He can still get over .500 in his last two starts, beginning tonight. I can't see him tossing a poor start this late in the game as he's as automatic as they come. Go with New York to back deGrom to a victory tonight.
