Nola, bullpen guide Philly to win
Aaron Nola threw 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball and the bullpen was scoreless the rest of the way last night in a 5-2 home win over the Mets. Jorge Alfaro was 2-for-3 with a home run, a stolen base and three RBIs.
Matz homers in defeat
New York starting pitcher Steven Matz helped his own cause Tuesday night as he hit a solo home run in the loss. He threw five shutout innings before being lifted. Drew Smith took the loss in relief as he gave up three earned runs on four hits in one-third of an inning. Jeff McNeil went 2-for-4 to help lead the offense. Brandon Nimmo was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Dominic Smith finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Kevin Plawecki walked twice in four plate appearances.
Syndergaard (12-3, 3.26 ERA) will start today for the Mets, while the Phillies counter with Zach Eflin (10-7, 4.26).
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 7-2 in Syndergaard's last nine Wednesday starts. The over is 7-3-1 in Syndergaard's last 11 Wednesday starts.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 3-7 in their last 10 games overall. Philadelphia is 32-66 in the last 98 meetings.
Prediction:
Not only has New York dominated this series in recent years, but Syndergaard is pitching some of his best baseball of the season right now. Philadelphia is not the same team as it was a couple months ago and this is a game it will probably lose as it plays out the string this season.
