Gray outduels Darvish
Cincinnati doubled up host Chicago last night by a count of 4-2 to improve to 71-81 overall and 31-46 on the road. Sonny Gray recorded the win as he allowed two earned runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Raisel Iglesias struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to notch the save. Aristides Aquino helped lead the Reds offensively as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Joey Votto went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, a run scored and an RBI. Eugenio Suarez was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Mahle will start today for Cincinnati as he enters with a 2-11 record, 5.11 ERA and 1.32 WHIP plus 120 strikeouts over 116 1/3 innings pitched.
Darvish strikes out 13 in loss
Chicago fell by a score of 4-2 at home Tuesday night against Cincinnati to drop to 82-69 overall and 51-25 at home. Kyle Schwarber led the Cubs offense as he finished 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBIs. Nicholas Castellanos ended the contest 0-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Ben Zobrist went 1-for-3. Yu Darvish took the loss as he gave up four earned runs on six hits with 13 strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. Jon Lester gets the start tonight for Chicago as he comes in with a 13-10 record, 4.59 ERA and 1.50 WHIP plus 156 strikeouts over 160 2/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are 5-22 in the last 27 Mahle starts. Cincinnati is 0-5 in its last five games versus a left-handed starter.
Chicago
The Cubs are 5-1 in the last six Lester Wednesday starts. Chicago is 47-22 in its last 69 home games.
Prediction:
This is the time of season for teams to play spoilers and while Mahle hasn't been great this season, he also hasn't had a lot of luck go his way. Lester, on the other hand, has had luck in the form of run support which makes up for his ugly peripherals. The Reds have some lefty bashers in their lineup and I'm calling a second straight win for the underdogs at Wrigley.
