Royals crushed at home

Kansas City lost by a score of 12-3 at home Sunday afternoon against Houston to drop to 55-95 overall and 29-47 at home. Jorge Soler helped pace the Royals offense as he was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Whit Merrifield ended the game 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Adalberto Mondesi went 2-for-4 with a run. Jake Junis took the loss as he gave up five earned runs on seven hits over 2 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking two. Glenn Sparkman gets the start for KC tonight as he comes in with a 4-11 record, 5.94 ERA and 1.48 WHIP plus  strikeouts over 122 2/3 innings pitched.

Manaea throws six strong

Oakland won its sixth straight game Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 victory at Texas to improve to 90-60 overall and 42-33 on the road. Sean Manaea notched the win as he threw six shutout innings with three hits allowed, six strikeouts and one walk. Jesus Lazardo picked up his first career save as he gave up one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks over three innings. Marcus Semien helped pace the A's offense as he was 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Matt Chapman finished 1-for-5 with a solo homer. Seth Brown ended the contest 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Tanner Roark will start tonight as he enters with a 10-8 record, 4.01 ERA and 1.36 WHIP plus 144 strikeouts over 152 23 innings of work.

Prediction:

Sparkman is one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball. I'll be shocked if he has his way with the Athletics. Roark is typically solid and with the run support he is likely to get, I have no problem taking Oakland on the runline here. The A's have plenty to play for and it's been showing on the field.
