Tanaka, Cessa combine on shutout
Masahiro Tanaka threw six shutout innings last night as the Yankees dominated visiting Toronto to the tune of 11-0. He gave up four hits while striking out eight and walking two. Luis Cessa threw the last three innings for his second save of the season, allowing three hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Andrew McCutchen was a perfect 3-for-3 with a solo home run, a double, a walk, two walks and two runs. Giancarlo Stanton finished 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and two RBIs. Aaron Hicks went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Didi Gregorius finished 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Gleyber Torres was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Gary Sanchez was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run. Luke Voit finished 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, a run and two RBIs. Brett Gardner was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Maile reaches base four times
Toronto catcher Luke Maile went 2-for-2 plus two walks from the bottom of the order yesterday in the loss to New York. Aledmys Diaz and Devon Travis both finished 1-for-3 with a double. Marco Estrada suffered the loss as he was shelled for eight earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks over 2 2/3 innings.
Sean Reid-Foley (1-3, 6.86 ERA) draws the start today for the Blue Jays, while the Yankees counter with CC Sabathia (7-6, 3.54).
MLB Betting Trends
The Blue Jays are 2-12 in their last 14 games on grass. Toronto is 1-10 in the last 11 meetings.
The under is 6-2 in the last eight Yankees games on Saturdays. New York is 48-22 in its last 70 home games versus Toronto.
The Yankees were impressive on all fronts last night and should have good success tonight against Reid-Foley, who is a top pitching prospect for the Blue Jays but has struggled in most of his starts so far at the MLB level. Sabathia has had a fine season and should limit a Toronto offense that lacks a lot of punch right now.
