Soroka stifles Nats
Mike Soroka threw six shutout innings Friday night as Atanta sent host Washington to a 5-0 defeat. Soroka allowed only one hit to go with four strikeouts and three walks over the six stellar frames. Ozzie Albies finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk to help lead the Braves offense. Nick Markakis went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Matt Joyce was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Mike Foltynewicz will start tonight for Atlanta as he enters with a 6-5 record, 5.00 ERA and 1.34 WHIP plus 88 strikeouts over 99 innings pitched.
Nats shut out on three hits
Washington was unable to mount much offense Friday night at home in a 5-0 defeat against Atlanta. Juan Soto paced the Nationals as he finished 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. Victor Robles was 1-for-3 with a double, while Adam Eaton went 1-for-4 with a double. Max Scherzer took the loss as he allowed three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Austin Voth gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 1-1 record, 4.00 ERA and 1.19 WHIP plus 30 strikeouts over 27 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 4-0 in their last four Saturday games. Atlanta is 6-0 in the last six Foltynewicz road starts.
Washington
The Nationals are 1-4 in the last five Voth starts. Washington is 20-9 in its last 29 games overall.
Prediction:
Foltynewicz has had a rocky season full of injury, but he's seemingly finally turned a corner at the perfect time. He's only allowed one earned run over his last 12 innings and clearly has some confidence rolling. This will be a tough test, but Foltynewicz has some of the best stuff in baseball when he can harness it. The Braves offense should be able to get to the rookie Voth enough to support Foltynewicz, especially if first baseman Freddie Freeman is in the lineup after leaving yesterday's game with an elbow ailment that isn't considered at all serious. I'm taking the Braves with plus money here.
