Cubs bats go cold
Chicago dropped a 4-0 decision at San Diego Wednesday night to drop to 77-68 overall and 30-44 on the road. Anthony Rizzo paced the Cubs offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a triple. Kris Bryant ended the contest 1-for-3, while Nicholas Castellanos was 1-for-4. Cole Hamels took the loss as he allowed one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and four walks over 4 1/3 innings. Yu Darvish gets the start today for Chicago as he enters with a 5-6 record, 4.12 ERA and 1.13 WHIP plus 190 strikeouts over 157 1/3 innings pitched.
Paddack spins gem
Chris Paddack threw six shutout innings Wednesday night to guide host San Diego to a 4-0 win over Chicago. Paddack allowed three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk to notch the victory. Manuel Margot paced the Padres offense as he ended the contest 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Wil Myers was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Ty France went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Dinelson Lamet takes the mound this afternoon as he comes in with a 2-4 record, 3.95 ERA and 1.24 WHIP plus 74 strikeouts over 57 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 1-5 in their last six road games. Chicago is 1-6 in the last seven Darvish road starts.
San Diego
The Padres are 5-1 in their last six home games. San Diego is 0-9 in the last nine Lamet home starts.
Prediction:
Chicago has struggled all season on the road and considering this is a getaway game, this feels like a live dog bet. San Diego has played well at home lately, while Lamet has a high strikeout rate and as long as he can avoid that one bad inning he should turn in a solid outing. Darvish is having a good season after a rough start, but it's not like he's incapable of a shaky outing. I'm taking the Padres here.
