A's rack up 25 hits
Oakland dominated by a final score of 21-7 Tuesday night at Houston one night after being crushed to the tune of 15-0. Khris Davis paced the A's offensively as he finished 3-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Marcus Semien was 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, two runs and three RBIs. Matt Olson ended the night 2-for-4 with two home runs, a walk, three runs scored and four RBIs. Sean Murphy finished 3-for-5 with two homers, three runs and four RBIs. Robbie Grossman was 3-for-6 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Tanner Roark picked up the win as he allowed five earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk over 5 1/3 innings. Daniel Mengden notched the save as he gave up two earned runs on four hits over three innings, striking out one and walking two. Brett Anderson draws the start tonight as he enters with an 11-9 record, 4.08 ERA and 1.31 WHIP plus 81 strikeouts over 161 innings pitched.
Astros humbled for a day
After scoring a combined 36 runs in its previous two games, it was Houston that was on the short end of the stick Tuesday night as it fell 21-7 at home against Oakland. Wade Miley had his second straight horrendous start as he gave up seven earned runs on seven hits with no strikeouts and one walk while recording just one out. Martin Maldonado helped pace the Astros offense as he went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs off the bench. George Springer was 2-for-2 with two solo homers. Myles Straw ended the contest 1-for-1 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI off the bench. Jose Urquidy gets the start tonight for Houston as he comes in with a 1-11 record, 5.33 ERA and 1.30 WHIP plus 24 strikeouts in 27 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A's are 8-1 in the last nine Anderson road starts. Oakland is 6-2 in its last eight games overall.
Houston
The Astros are 5-0 in their last five games after a loss. Houston is 36-15 in its last 51 games overall.
Prediction:
Why do I get the feeling the A's aren't yet done with the Astros? While Anderson is a sleepy pitcher to watch, he can also be frustrating to hit as he doesn't give up much hard contact. Meanwhile, Urquidy is a rookie who has had his moments but has struggled much of his time at the MLB level. Oakland has plenty to play for as it's in the lead for an AL Wild Card berth, which puts plenty of importance on a game like this. I'm taking a chance on Oakland for a second straight day.
