Braves finally lose a game
Atlanta had its nine-game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon with a 9-4 home loss to Washington. Matt Joyce paced the Braves offense as he ended the game 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double. Charlie Culberson was 1-for-1 with a solo home run off the bench. Francisco Cervelli finished 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit RBI double. Mike Soroka took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Mike Foltynewicz gets the start tonight as he enters with a 5-5 record, 5.28 ERA and 5.41 WHIP plus 81 strikeouts over 92 innings.
Phillies outlast Mets
Philadelphia won its second straight with a 10-7 victory at New York Sunday afternoon to wrap up the series. Maikel Franco helped lead the Phillies offense as he finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Scott Kingery finished 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Aaron Haseley was 1-for-2 with a solo home run. Rhys Hoskins ended the contest 2-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored. Ranger Suarez picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit with one strikeout and no walks over two-thirds of an inning of scoreless baseball. Aaron Nola draws the start tonight as he comes in with a 12-4 record, 3.63 ERA and 1.23 WHIP plus 200 strikeouts over 178 2/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 5-2 in their last seven road games. Atlanta is 5-0 in the last five Foltynewicz road starts.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five Monday games. Philadelphia is 30-12 in the last 42 Nola home starts.
Prediction:
Foltynewicz has had a disappointing season as he's struggled to bounce back from injuries and high pitch counts have often kept him from pitching deep into games. The Braves can afford a loss or two and with Nola going at home for a Philly team with Wild Card aspirations, I'm fading Atlanta in this spot. Look for Nola to outduel Foltynewicz and send the hosts to a win.
