Diamondbacks edged by Reds

Arizona lost by a score of 4-3 Sunday afternoon in a series finale at Cincinnati to drop to 75-68 overall and 39-35 on the road. Ketel Marte paced the D-backs offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Josh Rojas went 1-for-3 with a double plus a walk. Nick Ahmed ended the game 1-for-4 with an RBI. Yoan Lopez took the loss as he allowed one earned run on two hits without recording an out. Merrill Kelly starts tonight as he enters with a 10-13 record, 4.69 ERA and 1.35 WHIP plus 132 strikeouts over 157 1/3 innings.

Mets drop second straight

New York completed its home series against Philadelphia Sunday afternoon with a 10-7 loss to drop to 72-70 overall and 38-29 at home. Wilson Ramos paced the Mets offense as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs. Robinson Cano was 1-for-3 with a homer, a walk and two RBIs. Brandon Nimmo ended the game 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and an RBI. Paul Sewald took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit with no strikeouts or walks in one-third of an inning. Jacob deGrom gets the start tonight as he comes in with an 8-8 record, 2.76 ERA and 105 WHIP plus 220 strikeouts across 176 innings pitched.

New York

The Mets are 3-14 in their last 17 deGrom starts at home versus a team with a winning record. New York is 1-10 in the last 11 deGrom starts in a series opener.

Prediction:

I'll never understand how the Mets have an elite pitcher in deGrom and have a good enough offense, but for whatever reason they sleepwalk through his starts far too often. While deGrom hasn't been particularly good his last two starts, that's not normal for him and I think the formula is right for a dynamite start here. Kelly doesn't scare anyone and with New York desperate for a win, I think we see what should be normal - a deGrom win.
