Pirates’ Kingham will start in place of Nova on Sunday
Nick Kingham will start Sunday's game against the Braves in place of Ivan Nova. Nova, the scheduled starter, is away from the team for a personal issue, the Pirates announced Saturday. Kingham has made two relief appearances since being recalled on August 25 after serving as a starter during his first go-round with the club. He may be able to give the club five innings but against a good Braves team we're not going to recommend the 26-year-old too strongly as a streaming option.
Braves’ Teheran so-so over 5 2/3 innings vs. Rays
Julio Teheran allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings Tuesday, taking a no-decision in the Braves' 9-5 win over the Rays. Just one of the Rays’ six hits off of Teheran went for extra bases, but unfortunately for the right-hander it was a two-run home run hit by Brandon Lowe. Teheran fanned five and walked one on the night, needing 101 pitches to cover his 5 2/3 frames. It breaks a string of three straight quality starts from the right-hander.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates have lost seven of Kingham’s last 10 starts and are 1-5 in his last six outings following a team loss in their previous game.
Atlanta
The Braves are 1-5 in Teheran’s last six starts coming off four days of rest.
Prediction:
These two teams are struggling offensively, especially the Pirates. The under is 5-0 in the Pirates’ last five games, is 24-9-5 in their last 37 games versus National League East opponents and 8-1 in their last nine games when it’s the third game of a series. The under is also 11-3 in the Braves’ last 13 games overall, is 8-3 in Teheran’s last 11 starts and 18-7-1 in his last 26 home outings.
The Pick: Pirates/Braves under 8.5
