Kershaw struggles in loss

Los Angeles suffered a 6-5 defeat Saturday night at Arizona to drop to 88-50 overall and 36-32 on the road. Clayton Kershaw took the loss as he allowed five earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Justin Turner paced the offense as he was 3-for-4 with a solo homer. Chris Taylor ended the game 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Will Smith was 1-for-3 with a solo home run plus a walk. Ross Stripling gets the start today as he enters with a 4-4 recird, 3.64 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 76 strikeouts over 76 2/3 innings pitched.

Escobar homers for third straight game

Arizona topped visiting Los Angeles Saturday night by a score of 6-5 to improve to 70-66 overall and 33-32 at home. Eduardo Escobar continued his power streak as he was 1-for-4 with a key eighth-inning solo home run. Wilmer Flores finished 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Christian Walker ended the game 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Nick Ahmed ended the game 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and two RBIs. Robbie Ray picked up the win as he gave up four earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks over five innings of work. Archie Bradley recorded the save as he allowed one earned run on two hits with no strikeouts and one walk in one inning. Alex Young will start today as he comes in with a 6-3 record, 3.81 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 41 strikeouts over 54 1/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Los Angeles

The Dodgers are 39-16 in their last 55 Sunday games. Los Angeles is 4-1 in the last five Stripling road starts.

Arizona

The Diamondbacks are 6-0 in their last six games. Arizona is 6-1 in its last seven home games.

Prediction:

Los Angeles isn't typically in the position of avoiding sweeps, but here we are. Young is having a pretty solid rookie season and Arizona smells blood right now against a team that has shown a vulnerable bullpen lately. If the D-backs can scratch a few runs across against Stripling and lean on Young, I think they can get this done. I'm taking a shot on Arizona to get a fourth straight win over LA and seventh straight overall.
