Ryan Brasier was rocked for six earned runs on five hits and a walk over 2/3 of an inning in a loss to the Angels on Saturday. Yikes. Brasier was called upon to work the eighth inning with the Red Sox leading by a single run. That lead quickly evaporated as the veteran right coughed up a game-tying RBI single to Andrelton Simmons, a go-ahead RBI double to David Fletcher and an additional two-run single to Brian Goodwin before finally being lifted from the contest. He was charged with two additional runs when Josh Smith gave up a three-run homer to ensuing batter Albert Pujols. The disastrous outing inflates his ERA by more than a full run, from 3.99 to 5.06 on the year. The Red Sox bullpen has been atrocious this season and it certainly cost them a chance to inch closer to a Wild Card spot in this one.

Los Angeles Angels Fantasy Spin

Kole Calhoun went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored in the Angels’ win over the Red Sox on Saturday. Calhoun scalded an RBI double into the right-field corner off Red Sox’ lefty Brian Johnson in the third inning. He eventually trotted home on an RBI double by Luis Rengifo later in the frame. He also singled and scored a run in the Angels’ seven-run outburst in the eighth inning. The 31-year-old veteran has put together an extremely impressive campaign, hitting .240/.330/.482 with 80 runs scored, 28 home runs, 67 RBI and three stolen bases in 534 plate appearances.
