Cain hits go-ahead homer
Lorenzo Cain homered in the top of the 11th inning Thursday afternoon to send the Brewers to a 2-1 victory at the Reds. Cain finished 2-for-4 with the solo homer plus a walk. Jesus Aguilar ended the game 1-for-4 plus a walk. Joakim Soria picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning. Josh Hader earned the save as he threw a perfect 11th inning.
Nats have three-game win streak snapped
Washington lost its series finale at Philadelphia on Wednesday by a count of 8-6 before having an off day Thursday. Adam Eaton went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and a run to help pace the offense. Trea Turner was 1-for-5 with a 2-run homer. Anthony Rendon finished 1-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs. Juan Soto ended the game 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Ryan Zimmerman went 1-for-3 with a walk. Wilmer Difo finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jimmy Cordero took the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk in 1 1/3 innings.
Jhoulys Chacin (13-5, 3.61 ERA) will start today for the Brewers, while the Nationals counter with Tanner Roark (8-13, 3.95).
MLB Betting Trends
The over is 10-2 in the last 12 Milwaukee games following a win. The Brewers are 11-5 in their last 16 Friday games.
The over is 6-1-1 in the last eight Washington home games. The under is 5-1-3 in Roark's last nine Friday starts.
Milwaukee is still trending upward, while Washington continues to disappoint as a .500 team although it did show some life this past week. The pitching matchup here is fairly even and although the Nationals are at home, I'll take the plus money on the underdog playing the better baseball overall.
