Pirates crushed by Phillies
Pittsburgh lost a 12-3 decision at Philadelphia Wednesday night in a series finale. Starling Marte paced the Pirates offense as he finished 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Josh Bell was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Adam Frazier ended the contest 1-for-4 with a double. Mitch Keller took the loss as he surrendered eight earned runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and one walk over four innings. Trevor Wiliams draws the start tonight as he enters with a 6-6 record, 5.35 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 84 strikeouts over 112 2/3 innings pitched.
Rockies drop both games against Red Sox
Colorado fell by a score of 7-4 at home Thursday night in interleague action versus Boston. Nolan Arenado led the Rockies offensively as he went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Ian Desmond was 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs. Yonathan Daza and Tony Wolters were each 2-for-4 with an RBI. Peter Lambert suffered the loss as he surrendered five earned runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking one. Chi Chi Gonzalez gets the start tonight for Colorado as he comes in with an 0-5 record, 6.43 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 20 strikeouts over 35 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
The Pirates are 17-36 in their last 53 games overall. Pittsburgh is 1-4 in the last five Williams road starts.
The Rockies are 5-2 in their last seven home games. Colorado is 0-7 in the last seven Gonzalez starts.
I don't think the right team is favored here. Sure, the Rockies are at home and have played above-.500 ball at Coors Field this season. But with Gonzalez on the mound, they become harder to endorse. Williams is having a down year after a strong 2018, but he is a competent pitcher who has also dealt with some poor luck this season. I'm taking the Pirates here as I don't want to put my money on Gonzalez guiding the way to a win.
