Frankie Montas struck out nine batters over seven shutout innings with two hits and two walks allowed in a no-decision as the A's lost 2-1 against the Giants on Sunday. Montas put together one of his best starts of the season on Sunday against the Giants, keeping them scoreless over seven innings. The closest the Giants would come to scoring on Montas came in the third inning. Tommy La Stella singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. A groundout moved La Stella to third with two outs before Montas got out of the inning with a fly out by Brandon Belt. The 28-year-old right-hander tossed 65-of-105 pitches for strikes and induced an incredible 21 whiffs to strike out nine batters. Montas will take a 3.84 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 161 strikeouts over 143 innings into his next start against the Yankees in Oakland on Saturday.
