Pirates break tie in ninth
Pittsburgh scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth inning Tuesday night as it prevailed 5-4 at Philadelphia. Bryan Reynolds helped pace the Pirates offense as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Starling Marte ended the contest 2-for-5 with two doubles. Colin Moran went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Felipe Vazquez picked up the win as he struck out one in 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief. Mitch Keller draws the start tonight for Pittsburgh as he enters with a 1-2 record, 7.24 ERA and 1.83 WHIP with 33 strikeouts over 27 1/3 innings.
Phillies fall on fluke error
Philadelphia fell 5-4 at home Tuesday night versus Pittsburgh as first baseman Rhys Hoskins dropped a throw on what would have been an inning-ending double play. Adam Haseley helped pace the Phillies offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Logan Morrison went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit solo home run. Corey Dickerson ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Hector Neris took the loss in relief as he surrendered one unearned run on one hit with no strikeouts and two walks over one inning. Vince Velasquez gets the start tonight for Philadelphia as he comes in with a 5-7 record, 4.93 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 98 strikeouts over 91 1/3 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 17-35 in their last 52 games overall. Pittsburgh is 0-6 in its last six Wednesday games.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 5-1 in their last six games versus the NL Central. Philadelphia is 8-3 in the last 11 Velasquez home starts.
Prediction:
The Philles let an important game slip away last night in their quest for a playoff spot. Velasquez was poor in his last start and I don't fully trust him, but Keller on the other side is raw and hasn't fully developed an arsenal suitable to be an MLB starter. Instead of picking a side here, I'd rather take a chance on a high-scoring game that will go over the projected total.
