Blue Jays’ Gaviglio silences Orioles in last start
Sam Gaviglio had it going Tuesday against the Orioles, fanning seven while yielding just two runs over seven frames in the Blue Jays' 8-2 win. The sinkerballer allowed a solo home run to Cedric Mullins but induced 10 groundball outs to go along with his seven punchouts. Gaviglio has now fanned 90 batters over 94 2/3 innings this season, which is a surprise for a guy not known for missing bats. The results have been inconsistent, though, as he still hasn’t posted back-to-back quality starts this season.
Orioles’ Hess sharp over seven innings in loss to Blue Jays
David Hess tossed seven innings of one-run ball Wednesday in a loss to the Blue Jays. Hess got zero run support and the O's bullpen surrendered five runs after he departed. The 25-year-old right-hander did his part, yielding only three hits while striking out seven and issuing zero walks as he carried a shutout into the bottom of the seventh. Hess is now 2-8 with a 5.50 ERA.
