Mets’ Syndergaard solid for six innings vs. Giants

Noah Syndergaard pitched six innings of two-run ball for a victory Wednesday against the Giants. Syndergaard still isn't in ace form, but he is keeping it together; he hasn't allowed more than four runs in any of his 18 starts this year. He struck out six and walked one tonight. He hasn't fanned for more than seven batters in any of his seven starts since returning from a finger injury in July.

Cubs’ Lester allows one run in 5 2/3 to beat Tigers

Jon Lester held the Tigers to one run over 5 2/3 innings and took home a win on Wednesday. He burned an even 100 pitches while falling one out short of a quality start. It was a good outing for the veteran left-hander but not a dominant one. He allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out three. He improves to 14-5 with a 3.64 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 26 starts.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Mets are 13-3 in Syndergaard’s last 15 starts versus National League Central opponents and are 5-2 in his last seven outings overall.

Chicago

The Cubs have won five straight games and 40 of 52 at home when facing a team with a losing record.

Prediction:

The under is 3-2-1 in Syndergaard’s last six road starts, is 18-8 in his last 26 games when he pitches the first game of a series, and is 5-2 in his last seven outings coming off four days of rest. On the other side, the under is 8-2 in the Cubs’ last 10 games, has cashed in five of their last seven home games and is 7-1 in their last eight games coming off a win. Lester has thrown up some clunkers in the second half but this betting total is too high given this pitching matchup.

The Pick: Mets/Cubs under 10.5
