Phillies’ Velasquez has rain-shortened start vs. Nationals
Vince Velasquez was charged with one run over four innings of work in a rain-shortened outing Tuesday in the Phillies' loss to the Nationals. Velasquez allowed an RBI double to pitcher Tanner Roark in the second inning and then surprisingly came back out to pitch following a one hour and 42 minute delay. He retired the Nationals in order in the third and fourth but was then pinch-hit for. It makes three straight short outings for Velasquez, although this one was hardly his fault.
Blue Jays’ Estrada allows three runs in win over Orioles
Marco Estrada earned a win Monday despite allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings against the Orioles. Estrada gave up a run-scoring sac fly to Chris Davis in the top of the third and a solo homer to Renato Nunez in the top of the sixth. Craig Gentry's double one batter later chased the veteran right-hander from the game, and Gentry was ultimately driven in by Caleb Joseph. But the Jays' offense provided five runs of support in this one, with Estrada earning his seventh win of the year. He'll bring a rough 4.88 season ERA into his next start at home against the Phillies.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 1-6 in their last seven games overall and 1-5 in their last six road games.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have won five straight overall and six consecutive at home.
Prediction:
I look for the Phillies to salvage at least one game in this series with a victory today. They’re 14-3 in their last 17 games after losing the first two games of a series and the Blue Jays are just 2-9 in Estrada’s last 11 starts when he faces an opponent with a winning record.
The Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -120
