Renigfo homers in defeat

Los Angeles lost by a count of 5-2 Saturday night at Houston to drop to 63-69 overall and 30-38 on the road. Luis Renigfo paced the Angels offense as he finished 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks. Mike Trout went 1-for-5 with an RBI. David Fletcher was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. Dillon Peters took the loss as he gave up five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 4 2/3 innings. Jaime Barria will start this afternoon for AL as he enters with a 4-6 record, 6.35 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 55 strikeouts over 56 2/3 innings.

Brantley, Bregman power Astros

Houston earned a 5-2 home victory Saturday night over Los Angeles to improve to 84-47 overall and 48-16 at home. Michael Brantley helped lead the Astros offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Alex Bregman went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs. Jose Altuve was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs. Wade Miley picked up the win as he gave up one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk over five innings. Will Harris recorded the save as he struck out one and walked one in a scoreless inning of work. Framber Valdez takes the hill today for Houston as he comes in with a 3-6 record, 4.58 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 45 strikeouts over 50 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Houston

The Angels are 5-1 in their last six Sunday games. Los Angeles is 0-4 in its last four road games.

Houston

The Astros are 8-1 in their last nine Sunday games. Houston is 1-5 in the last six Valdez starts.

Prediction:

Valdez has been shaky this season and while Houston is the better team, I'm going to take a chance on the underdog here. If the Angels can score early, it can help ease Barria into the game and while his overall numbers aren't very good, he does have a solid strikeout rate and has had some success in his MLB career. Houston is difficult to beat at home, but if there's ever a good time to bet on the road side it's when the Astros don't have one of their top pitchers on the hill.
