Braves power past Mets

Atlanta broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the eighth inning Saturday night en route to a 9-5 victory at New York. Francisco Cervelli led the Braves in his debut for the team as he finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBIs. Josh Donaldson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run plus a walk. Freddie Freeman was 1-for-5 with a solo homer. Ozzie Albies ended the game 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk. Josh Tomlin earned the win in relief as he gave up two hits with one strikeout and no walks over two scoreless frames. Dallas Keuchel draws the start today as he enters with a 4-5 record, 4.14 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 60 strikeouts over 71 2/3 innings pitched.

Alonso homers in loss

New York faltered late Saturday night as it fell 9-5 at home to Atlanta to drop to 67-62 overall and 37-23 at home. Pete Alonso led the Mets offense as he ended the game 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Amed Rosario finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Joe Panik went 1-for-4 with run and an RBI. Brad Brach took the loss in relief as he surrendered two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and no walks over one inning of work. Steven Matz gets the start today as he comes in with an 8-7 record, 4.18 ERA and 1.34 WHIP plus 116 strikeouts over 122 2/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Atlanta

The Braves are 5-0 in their last five games versus a left-handed starter. Atlanta is 4-1 in its last five road games.

New York

The Mets are 13-3 in their last 16 home games. New York is 10-2 in the last 12 Matz home starts.

Prediction:

Atlanta has won seven games in a row, but with New York playing so well at home I think it avoids the sweep in an important spot here. The Mets' playoff odds are currently measured at 37.8 percent, so wins going forward are important each and every day. Matz has been solid at home and Keuchel has been a slight disappointment for the Braves since his signing. I'm taking a shot as the Mets here as the slight favorites.
