Phillies overcome early deficit

Philadelphia trailed 2-0 through two innings Wednesday night at Boston before rallying for a 5-2 victory. Bryce Harper helped pace the Phillies offense as he went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Rhys Hoskins was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs scored. Corey Dickerson ended the game 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Jared Hughes picked up the win in relief as he gave up no hits with no strikeouts and one walk in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. Hector Neris struck out one in a perfect inning of relief to record the save. Vince Velasquez draws the start tonight for Philadelphia as he enters with a 5-7 record, 4.35 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 96 strikeouts over 89 innings pitched.

Marlins drop sixth straight

Miami lost by a count of 3-2 Thursday night at Atlanta to drop to 45-81 overall and 20-42 on the road. Starlin Castro paced the Marlins offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Neil Walker went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Brian Anderson finished 1-for-4 with a run. Ryne Stanek took the loss in relief as he surrendered two earned runs on three hits over 1 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking one. Hector Noesi gets the start tonight as he comes in with an 0-3 record, 9.39 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 15 1/3 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 6-2 in their last eight road games. Philadelphia is 5-2 in the last seven Velasquez starts.

Miami

The Marlins are 16-35 in their last 51 games overall. Miami is 9-21 in its last 30 Friday games.

Prediction:

Velasquez can be a difficult pitcher to trust, but he is the better arm in this matchup as Noesi is mediocre and hasn't had any success at the MLB level this season. The Phillies won a couple important games at Boston and I like their chances to keep it rolling at a struggling Marlins squad.

MLB DAILY PREDICTION: PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES -174
