D-backs win on throwing error
Arizona picked up a 5-4 victory Tuesday night as the Angels made a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by A.J. Pollock, allowing the game-winning run to score. Pollock did not have a hit in the game as he was 0-for-3, but he did score a run. Eduardo Escobar finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. David Peralta was a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Ketel Marte finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Brad Boxberger picked up the win in relief as he allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning.
Pena strikes out 12
Angels rookie Felix Pena had a no-decision last night as he surrendered four earned runs on seven hits with 12 strikeouts and two walks over six innings of work. Cam Bedrosian suffered the loss as he allowed one unearned run on one hit without recording an out. Kole Calhoun helped pace the offense as he was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. David Fletcher finished 3-for-5 with a triple, a run and two RBIs. Albert Pujols walked twice in four plate appearances. Andrelton Simmons ended the contest 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jefry Marte contributed with a pinch-hit solo home run.
Odrisamer Despaigne (2-1, 6.29 ERA) draws the start today for the Angels, while the Diamondbacks counter with Clay Buchholz (6-2, 2.47).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The under is 19-7-3 in the last 29 Angels interleague games. Los Angeles is 17-38 in its last 55 games versus a starting pitcher with a WHIP under 1.15.
Arizona
The D-backs are 4-0 in their last four games versus a right-handed starting pitcher. Arizona is 5-1 in its last six games overall.
Prediction:
Buchholz has been very surprising as an addition to the Arizona rotation and is coming off a complete-game win. With Despaigne being one of the most hittable pitchers in baseball, I don't see why this can't be a rout. While Arizona could have a letdown after last night's exciting win, it has a lot more to play for and the much better pitcher going. Take Arizona here and consider the runline bet.
