Orioles’ Bundy gets pounded for seven runs by Mets
Dylan Bundy got taken out behind the woodshed for a seven-run beatdown at the hands of the Mets on Wednesday. He served up a solo home run to Todd Frazier and a whole bunch of hard contact to the rest of the lineup. He made it through 5 1/3 innings and allowed 11 hits total (six of them for extra bases) while striking out five in the loss. He gave up eight runs in his last start, so it's been a rough stretch for the former elite prospect. He falls to 7-11 with a 4.99 ERA and 1.34 WHIP after 23 starts. He has a nice 137:41 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 131 2/3 innings but has teed up 30 round-trippers already.
Blue Jays’ Gaviglio lit up for five runs in loss to Royals
Sam Gaviglio allowed five runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Royals on Thursday. Gaviglio served up eight hits, including a solo homer to Lucas Duda in the second inning, and was lifted with one out in the fifth inning after throwing just 72 pitches. He struck out a pair of batters and only issued one walk. The 28-year-old righty is 0-3 with a 6.16 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break. He strikes out enough batters (8.52 K/9) to merit consideration as a streaming option in deeper mixed leagues, but his raw numbers in terms of run prevention have been lackluster thanks to a bloated .323 BABIP. Gaviglio is 2-5 with a pedestrian 5.13 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 83/28 K/BB ratio in 17 starts this year.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are 3-8 in Bundy’s last 11 road starts and 1-6 in his last six outings overall.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have lost five straight games that Gaviglio starts and six straight when he’s coming off four days of rest.
Prediction:
The over has been profitable when these two pitchers take the mound for their respective teams. The over is 4-1-1 in Bundy’s last six starts, is 7-3 in his last 10 outings when he faces an opponent that owns a losing record, and is 6-1-1 in his last eight outings coming off five days of rest. On the other side, the over is 5-1 in Gaviglio’s last six starts coming off four days of rest and is 5-2 in the Blue Jays’ last seven games overall.
The Pick: Orioles/Blue Jays over 9
