Pete Alonso walloped a two-run homer on Tuesday in the Mets' loss to the Giants. Alonso put the Mets on the board, finally, with a two-run dinger to left-center field -- his 26th long ball of the season -- off righty Logan Webb in the eighth inning. It was his lone hit in four at-bats in the low-scoring affair. The 26-year-old masher has gone deep just three times in 16 games this month. Meanwhile, the Mets have dropped five consecutive games and 12 of 17 overall since the major-league trade deadline on July 31.

Evan Longoria went 3-for-3 with a solo homer on Tuesday in the Giants' win over the Mets. Longoria supplied a critical insurance run for the Giants with a solo homer to left field off righty Marcus Stroman in the seventh inning. The 35-year-old veteran third baseman has put together a solid campaign at the dish, slashing .291/.384/.529 with 32 runs scored, 10 home runs, 31 RBI and one stolen base across 198 plate appearances.
