Seager hits tie-breaking homer

Kyle Seager hit a tie-breaking solo home run in the top of the eighth inning Saturday afternoon to help lead Seattle to a 4-3 victory at Toronto. It was his only hit in four at-bats. Austin Nola paced the Mariners offense as he ended the game 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored. Keon Broxton went 0-for-1 with a walk and two RBIs. Anthony Bass earned the win in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks over one inning of work. Mike Magill picked up the save as he gave up one hit with three strikeouts and no walks in one scoreless frame. Yusei Kikuchi will start today for Seattle as he enters with a 4-8 record, 5.56 ERA and 1.52 WHIP with 95 strikeouts over 126 1/3 innings pitched.

Jays homer twice in defeat

Toronto fell by a count of 4-3 at home Saturday afternoon to drop to 52-74 overall and 25-38 at home. Reese McGuire helped lead the Blue Jays offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double. Bo Bichette went 2-for-5 with a solo homer. Justin Smoak ended the contest 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run scored. Tim Mayza suffered the loss in relief as he surrendered one earned run on one hit with no strikeouts or walks over two-thirds of an inning. Wilmer Font draws the start today for Toronto as he comes in with a 3-2 record, 4.40 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 63 strikeouts over 61 1/3 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

Seattle

The Mariners are 1-6 in their last seven Sunday games. Seattle is 4-10 in the last 14 Kikuchi starts.

Toronto

The Blue Jays are 4-0 in the last four Font starts. Toronto is 0-5 in its last five Sunday games.

Prediction:

Font has always been highly thought of in analytical circles, but hasn't always been able to put it together at the MLB level which has seen him bounce from team to team. But he has seemingly settled in now that he's a Blue Jay, giving up no runs over 10 1/3 innings in his last five appearances. If he gets through a couple innings in strong fashion again today versus a less than imposing Mariners offense, the hosts should be in good shape here as Kikuchi has struggled against almost everyone this season. I'm taking the home team here.

MLB DAILY PREDICTION: TORONTO BLUE JAYS -154
