Padres drop opener

San Diego has lost four of its last five games following an 8-4 loss to the Phillies on Friday in the series opener. The Padres are 56-65 on the season, 27-32 on the road and 59-54 with the over. Dinelson Lamet gets the start for the Padres today. He is 1-2 on the season with a 3.86 ERA.

The Padres fell behind early last night and couldn’t recover. They finished the game with seven hits. Josh Naylor led the way with three hits and scored two runs. Eric Hosmer drove in his 82nd run of the season in the loss as well. Chris Paddack took the loss on the night by allowing four earned runs over 4.2 innings. He is 7-6 on the year.

Phillies win fourth straight

After sweeping the Cubs at home, the Phillies won their fourth straight on Friday night with an 8-4 victory over the Padres. Philly is now 64-58 on the season, 38-26 at home and 61-58 with the under. Zach Eflin gets the start for Philly today. He is 7-11 on the year with a 4.49 ERA.

Bryce Harper homered for the third straight game to help lead the Phillies to the win. He now has 26 home runs and he drove in three runs for 90 RBI on the year. J.T. Realmuto had three hits with a home run and two RBI as well. Vince Velasquez got his fifth win of the year by allowing just three earned runs over 5.1 innings. The Philly pen allowed just one run over the last 3.2 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

San Diego

The Padres are 10-22 in their last 32 Saturday games and 2-10 in their last 12 against NL East opponents.

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 6-2 in their last eight home games against a team with a losing record and 6-0 in Eflin’s last six home starts against a team with a losing record.

Prediction:

Lamet has been average in short stints, but he has an impressive 2.70 ERA on the road. Eflin has been pitching in relief lately and has given up just one run over 5.2 innings. While Lamet has been the stronger pitcher overall, I don’t like the Padres on the road. The Phillies are surging right now and playing with a lot of energy as they hope to make a playoff push.

MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies -110
