Mets’ Syndergaard strikes out seven in win over Marlins
Noah Syndergaard yielded three runs on seven hits over seven innings in a win over the Marlins on Sunday. Syndergaard scattered seven hits (all singles) and struck out seven batters. He threw an impressive 69 of 101 pitches for strikes and only issued a pair of walks over seven solid frames. The 25-year-old flamethrower is 8-2 with a 3.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and sparkling 100/19 K/BB ratio in 16 starts. He’ll face the Phillies on the road in his next start on Friday.
Phillies’ Nola works six scoreless innings vs. Padres
Aaron Nola worked six scoreless innings Saturday in the Phillies' 5-1 defeat of the Padres. Nola struck out five while scattering four hits and three walks as he moved to 13-3 on the year and lowered his season ERA to 2.28. The 25-year-old right-hander could very well be a top-three finisher in the National League Cy Young Award if he keeps it up. He'll get the Mets at home next time out.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 4-1 in Syndergaard’s last five starts.
Philadelphia
The Phillies have won 17 of Nola’s last 22 starts.
Prediction:
This game is set up for a pitcher’s duel given the two starters but the over has been a hot bet with the Mets involved. The over is 4-1-1 in the Mets’ last six games, is 5-2 in their last seven games versus a right-handed starter, and is 3-0-1 in their last four games coming off a loss. On the other side, the over is 4-1 in the Phillies’ last five games overall, is 3-0-1 in their last four games against the rest of the National League East and is 10-3-1 in their last 14 games after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.
The Pick: Mets/Phillies over 7.5
