Marlins lose four straight at Braves
Miami lost its fifth straight game and fourth in a row in a sweep at Atlanta Wednesday as it fell 5-2. The biggest news to come out of the game was starting pitcher Jose Urena plunking Braves slugger Ronald Acuna Jr. with his first pitch and getting ejected. He has been suspended six games by MLB. Rafael Ortega ended the game 1-for-3 with a walk and a run from the leadoff spot. Starlin Castro finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Jarlin Garcia took the loss in relief as he allowed three earned runs on two hits plus a walk in one inning.
Nats avoid sweep at St. Louis
Washington built up a four-run lead Thursday afternoon before holding on for a 5-4 victory at the Cardinals. Trea Turner went 2-for-5 with a run to help pace the offense. Bryce Harper finished 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Anthony Rendon was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Tanner Roark helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with two runs. Roark allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with one strikeout and three walks over six innings to earn the win. Koda Glover picked up his first save of the season as he allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one in an inning of work.
Dan Straily (4-5, 4.42 ERA) draws the start for the Marlins tonight, while the Nats counter with Scherzer (15-5, 2.19).
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are 5-18 in their last 23 games overall. Miami is 23-53 in its last 76 games overall.
Washington
The Nationals are 19-7 in their last 26 games overall. Washington is 8-3 in its last 11 home games.
Prediction:
Washington has struggled on the road lately, but has played pretty well at home. Scherzer is once again an NL Cy Young Award frontrunner and should shut down a lousy Marlins offense. Straily has been very hittable all season and the Nats should get to him plenty enough to support Scherzer and win by multiple runs.
