Astros’ Morton allows three runs in loss to Mariners
Charlie Morton allowed three earned runs over six innings Saturday in a loss to the Mariners. Things were going fine for Morton until the top of the third inning, when he plunked leadoff man Denard Span and went on to surrender two singles, a double, and a triple. Morton is now 12-3 on the season with a 2.88 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 171/54 K/BB ratio in 137 1/3 innings. He'll get the Athletics on the road next time out.
A's Jackson on again with seven scoreless innings vs. Angels
Edwin Jackson was terrific again Saturday, spinning 7 1/3 shutout innings in the Athletics' 7-0 blanking of the Angels. Jackson issued three walks but gave up only three hits and struck out six. The veteran right-hander now holds a 2.48 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 41/17 K/BB ratio in 54 1/3 innings (nine starts) since joining the Oakland rotation in late June. He'll put those numbers to the test next week against the AL West-leading Astros.
