Porcello strong in victory
Rick Porcello shook off a poor start his last time out as he gave up one earned run on two hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk over seven innings to get the win in a 2-1 triumph. Craig Kimbrel walked one and struck out one in the ninth for his 36th save. Sandy Leon finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run, while Brock Holt broke a tie in the eighth inning with a pinch-hit solo homer. Mookie Betts finished 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Hoskins homers in loss
Rhys Hoskins provided the only offense for the Phillies last night as he hit a fifth inning homer off Porcello. It was his only hit in three at-bats. Odubel Herrera was 1-for-3 as he had the only other Philadelphia hit. Tommy Hunter took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout in an inning of work.
Nathan Eovaldi (5-4, 3.74 ERA) will start today's game for the Red Sox, while the Phillies counter with Vincent Velasquez (8-9, 3.98).
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 21-5 in their last 26 Wednesday games. Boston is 42-12 in its last 54 interleague games.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 17-35 in the last 52 meetings. The under is 6-0-2 in the last eight meetings.
Prediction:
It's difficult to bet against Boston these days, but I'm going to do it here. Eovaldi looked rough in his last start and Boston had trouble generating offense. Velasquez has the ability to shut down the best of offenses when he is focused and on his game. Philadelphia played Boston tough on the road and again yesterday. Look for the Phillies to get a win here.
