According to oddsmakers, the Mariners are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -125 to win. The Athletics are listed with a money line of +115 to prevail, while the over/under total has been set at 7.5 runs. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Mariners drop opener
The Mariners had their four-game win streak come to an end on Monday in a 7-6 loss to the Athletics on the road. Seattle falls to 69-51 overall and 33-27 on the road with the loss. Seattle is averaging 4.21 runs per game this year while giving up 4.40 per contest.
James Paxton will get the start for Seattle tonight. He is making his 24th start of the year and has a 10-5 record with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. Paxton has pitched 139.0 innings this year and has 175 strikeouts with 37 walks.
Athletics win third straight
Oakland has won three straight following their win on Monday, with three of their last four wins coming by one run. Oakland is now 71-48 overall and 34-23 at home. The Athletics are putting up 4.77 runs per game this year while giving up 4.22 per contest.
Mike Fiers gets the start for the Athletics tonight. He is making his second start for Oakland and 23rd start overall this year. Fiers has a 7-6 record with a 3.40 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Fiers has 95 strikeouts and 26 walks this year through 124.1 innings of work for Oakland and Detroit.
MLB Betting Trends
The Mariners have won eight of Paxton’s last 11 road starts, but they have lost five of their last seven games following a loss.
The Athletics have won 20 of their last 28 at home and they are 16-5 in their last 21 games against a left-handed starter.
This game should be another nail-biter, but I will stick with Oakland. The Athletics are doing a lot of what Seattle was doing earlier this season. They are finding ways to win games and grinding out innings. Seattle has lost a lot at the plate in recent weeks and I don’t feel they can put up runs consistently. I expect Fiers to have a strong outing and lead Oakland to the win.
The Pick: Oakland Athletics +115
