Rockies’ Marquez throws immaculate inning Wednesday vs. Pirates
German Marquez gave up 10 hits and three runs over six innings Wednesday in Colorado’s loss to the Pirates. Marquez notched a season-high 10 strikeouts. He also handed out a pair of free passes over his 94 pitches. The right-hander labored in the first, allowing four hits and two runs in the inning. In the fourth, Marquez threw an immaculate inning, striking out the side on nine pitches. That’s the third immaculate inning in the majors this year and the first by a Rockie since Rex Brothers did it in 2014. He also became the first pitcher to ever throw an immaculate inning at Coors Field. Marquez has been one of the best-hitting pitchers in the league this year (.357 AVG over 42 at-bats) and continued that trend with a base hit in the third inning.
Astros’ Verlander tossed for arguing vs. Mariners
Justin Verlander was ejected for arguing Thursday against the Mariners. He got into it with home plate umpire Nick Lentz between innings following a questionable balk call. Verlander wasn't long for this game anyway—the Mariners ripped him for six runs on seven hits (including three homers) in just two innings of work. For whatever reason, the Astros ace just didn't have it tonight. Brad Peacock came on in relief of Verlander in the third inning.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 1-4 in their last five road games and are 0-4 in their last four road games versus a right-handed starter.
Houston
The Astros have lost four straight overall and eight straight at home.
Prediction:
The Astros are struggling but the Rockies have been a bad bet in Houston, where they’re 11-28 in their last 39 games played at Minute Maid Park. Colorado is also just 1-7 in its last eight games overall, is 3-7 in its last 10 games versus right-handed starters, and is 20-41 in its last 61 interleague road games. On the other side, the Astros are 40-16 in their last 56 games versus National League West opponents and are 7-1 in their last eight interleague home games versus a right-handed starter.
The Pick: Houston Astros -1.5 (+100)
