Diamondbacks’ Corbin cruises over 7 1/3 scoreless innings vs. Phillies
Patrick Corbin hurled 7 1/3 shutout innings Wednesday in Arizona’s win over the Phillies. Corbin supplied nine strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter over his 103 pitches. Of the four hits he allowed, just one—a sixth-inning double by Roman Quinn—went for extra bases. Corbin has been a strikeout machine since the All-Star break, fanning 35 hitters over 26 1/3 second-half innings (12.3 K/9). Wednesday extended the left-hander’s unbeaten streak to four starts. He’ll try to keep that streak going when he toes the rubber Tuesday at Texas
Rangers’ Gallardo improves record to 7-1 with win vs. Mariners
Yovani Gallardo scattered three hits and two runs over six strong innings Wednesday in the Rangers’ win over the Mariners. Gallardo issued three walks and struck out two over 102 pitches. The right-hander allowed a run on Mitch Haniger’s RBI single in the first and another on a solo blast by Mike Zunino in the fifth. Gallardo’s command came and went—he was charged with two wild pitches—though obviously, he had a much better afternoon than his counterpart Marco Gonzales, who was lit up for seven runs in just five innings of work. Despite a sluggish 5.24 ERA, Gallardo has won seven of nine starts since joining Texas in mid-June.

Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 6-1 in their last seven games coming off a loss.
Texas
The Rangers are a perfect 6-0 in Gallardo’s last six home starts.
Prediction:
The Diamondbacks have won six of Corbin’s last seven starts, are 4-0 in his last four outings overall, and are 7-0 in their last seven games when their opponent scores five runs or more in its previous contest. On the other side, the Rangers are just 3-7 in their last 10 games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15 and are 9-22 in their last 31 games versus a team with a winning record.
